Happy Dyngus Day!

What is Dyngus Day you ask? Dyngus Day, loosely translated, means "Wet Monday" and is a curious Polish holiday dating back to the 15th century.

Before online dating and singles bars, there was Dyngus Day. Traditionally, the Monday after Easter is the day guys try to throw water over the girl they fancy to get their attention. This Polish holiday is believed to have originated with the baptism of Polish Prince Mieszko I in 966 A.D., and the use of water is said to evoke the spring rains needed to ensure a successful harvest later in the year.

Not into being drenched with water? Fear not! You can sway your suitor from turning you into the next contestant of a wet t-shirt contest with a "ransom" of hand painted eggs; and if that doesn't work, you can get revenge by soaking them the next day on "Easter Tuesday".

As long as you wear the appropriate dark colored clothing and swimmies, it sounds like a good time had by all!

So, in honor of Dyngus day, our "freebie" this month is a weekly menu inspired by Polish folk art. Like us on Facebook to either download and print out as many as you like, or put one in a frame and use a dry erase marker to help you plan out this weeks' dinners! Want to make Tacos on Tuesday but don't have any cheese? We have you covered with a spot to write extra items you might need to pick up.

Head over to our "Exclusive Deals" Facebook tab and check it out!
